Welcome Orchid Judges, Student Judges and Taxonomists!

The 19th World Orchid Conference® Judging Committee is looking forward to seeing you in Miami in January 2008 for a once-in-a-lifetime judging experience. By participating in judging you will become an integral part of an orchid event which we expect to be the largest ever held in the United States – approximately twice the size of the 11th World Orchid Conference held in Miami in 1984.

Judging will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Exhibition Center of the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Requirements for Judges:

  • Judges, Student-Clerks and Taxonomists must be full conference registrants (i.e. not “companion” or "one-day" registrants).
  • There is no charge (beyond the conference registration fee) or payment for judging.
  • Judges must apply and submit judging credentials which will be reviewed by the 19th World Orchid Conference® Judging Committee before the judging application is accepted. This process must be completed in advance – NO judges will be admitted without prior approval.
  • To be accepted as a judge, you will be expected to be an active participant in an established orchid judging system which issues some type of accreditation.
  • Student judges who are currently being trained in such a system will be accepted as Judging Clerks. You will have the opportunity to participate in a team with the world’s foremost orchid judges and will apply your orchid knowledge in the recording of your team’s decisions.
  • Established orchid taxonomists, whether active orchid judges or not, will be accepted as Judging Taxonomists, upon completion of the appropriate application and review process. You will be asked to participate in judging by providing your taxonomic expertise as a reference to the various judging teams.

Judging Applications, including those for Students and Taxonomists, are now being accepted. After review of your application, you will be notified of your judging acceptance and status (Please allow 3 - 4 weeks).

Visit this site often for updated information on the judging rules and procedures for the 19th World Orchid Conference®.

We look forward to seeing you in Miami.
